SSA

In the Five Star Personal Training SSA Clinic program we'll be using plyometric and resistance exercises that mimic movements used during regular season training and competition.  All of the exercises are selected to help improve speed, reaction time, agility, endurance, and strength. 

Current studies from the University of Massachusetts's Department of Kinesiology indicate that plyometric training, in combination with resistance training, has resulted in significant increases in athletic abilities over groups that strength train alone.

Plyometric exercises are an advanced form of athletic conditioning extremely effective for developing power and speed and important for injury prevention and rehabilitation.  Plyometric exercises force the muscle to contract rapidly from a full stretch position thereby conditioning the muscle at its weakest point.  By doing this you are better prepared to handle this type of stress in a real or game environment.

For example, plyometric footwork drills are used to teach an athlete how to move the feet out from under the body's center of gravity and to quickly recover and maintain dynamic balance and stability.  This is excellent training for those quick adjustments that must be made on the football field without a great deal of conscious thought. 

Resistance training is a form of exercise that challenges the muscles by applying resistance to a movement.  It has been shown to improve an athlete's strength and enhance running speed and overall sports performance.   Other benefits include maintaining proper muscular strength ratios, increasing core strength, increasing bone mineral density, and enhancing connective tissue.
